Shadow Health Secretary visits Norwich GP Practice
On Thursday 10 November Wes Streeting, Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care accompanied by Alice Macdonald (Campaigning to be Labour Councillor for North Norwich) visited Lionwood Medical Practice in Norwich.
Their visit, which was motivated by a thirst to better understand the pressures currently being experienced within primary care was warmly welcomed by Lyn Bostan, Business Manager and Partner at the practice who said “It was lovely to meet Wes Streeting and his team today to show them round our practice which of course we are very proud of. We really appreciate it when a minister takes the time out of their busy schedule to talk to us about our current challenges. GP Practices across Norfolk and Waveney are all really busy right now and we’re very lucky to have dedicated, professional and caring staff to care for our patients. I really can’t thank them enough and conveyed this to Wes Streeting and his team”.
Lyn was accompanied by Dr Saffana Rasul, GP Partner and clinical lead who added her thanks to staff and went on to say “Our health and care staff continue to go above and beyond to provide the right care and treatment in ways that are safe and effective. I really think Wes and his team got a feel for that today”
Dr Jimmy Wang a GP Partner at the practice was teaching a class of medical students at the practice when the MP and his team arrived. They took 5 minutes out of the lecture to meet Wes and Alice. Commenting on the visit Jimmy said “The education and training of our future workforce is absolutely key to an efficient health service in the future, as a practice we are committed to embracing this and regularly host medical students from the University of East Anglia who have a thriving medical programme. I am so pleased Mr Streeting visited us to get an insight into the pressures facing general practice and I hope he found his visit to be informative and useful”.
